Your baby 0-1 year

Fly with baby, get ready

For a long-haul flight or a shorter trip, a plane trip with your baby is organized. How to make his first flight happen at best? The advice of Dr. Arnaud Pfersdorff, pediatrician, for the comfort of your little one, to avoid earache and manage (if necessary) the time difference.

Anticipate the formalities

  • With most companies, domestic flights are free for children under 2 years old, provided your child travels on your lap. On international flights, it will pay a portion of the ticket price. If you prefer to reserve an individual seat for your baby's baby seat, you will pay the child's fare.

What has to be done

  • At the time of booking, tell the airline that you are traveling with a baby. You will be able to reserve a specific place to suspend a cradle, provided, in front of you. A special meal can also be served on board. If you need to warm a bottle, tell the hostesses when boarding, they will take care of it.
  • On the paper side, your child must have his own passport if you are traveling outside Europe. Otherwise, his identity card is enough.

Prepare for a comfortable flight

  • Earache, dehydration, air conditioning ... a trip by plane can be stressful for your baby. Anticipate the ills caused by pressurization.

What has to be done

  • On takeoff and, above all, landing, have your baby drink or give him a pacifier to avoid ear discomfort. If he has a cold or is susceptible to ear infections, check with your doctor to see if you need to delay your departure.
  • During the flight, make sure that he drinks because he can become dehydrated.
  • Dress him up in a warm and comfortable outfit: with air conditioning, he may catch cold. For the change and the bottles, plan wide anticipating a possible delay of the plane. Finally, think of his blanket and a toy!
